My Honeymoon in Ocho Rios in 1992 ~ Beautiful!!!
In 1992, we decided to honeymoon there because it sounded like a lovely combo of tropical beaches and historic/natural wonders to visit. We had an amazing taxi driver who we used as a guide, Big John I think he was named. He took us places and explained some of the history. We had taken an apartment in Turtle Beach Towers and loved the beach, particularly when the ice-cream guy arrived singing "ice-cream, ice-cream, we all love ice-cream" (or at least that is how I remember it) LoL
We also ate in a restaurant Evita's. Superb service and open air eating overlooking the bay. I have a memory of eating great steak in another place and then taking cocktails on the roof where we asked the lady bartender to make us her favourite, so she prepared a "YellowBird" and it was delicious. I have memories of lightning behind the clouds over the bay but it didn't rain.
We visited lots of places, Dunns River Falls (awesome), the underground area where one of James Bond stories was filmed. I have a photo of it where you can see gigantic fig tree roots that are 40ft long!
Unfortunately we are divorced now but still good friends and agree that our Honeymoon was awesome. I would love to return once again to see how it has grown since then.
People were so friendly, and what there was to see was more exciting and varied than I could have imagined at that time. Even the Plantation we visited was fantastic with tropical plants, blooms, aloe, chocolate trees, bananas, you name it! We tasted raw sugar cane too!
Thank you Ocho Rios for wonderful, wonderful memories for a dream Honeymoon. :) x
