Jamaican Getaways Melt Away Canadians' Cold Winter Thoughts!
By Bill Parise Publisher's Summary: Travelling from Canada to Jamaica has never been easier. But why are great numbers of Canadians now taking a Jamaican getaway? The answers may surprise you. There is increased interest in Canadians travelling to Jamaica, and in my opinion it's about time! I have been talking about how beautiful this lush island is with it's scenic beauty, comfortable warm climate, and incredibly white sandy beaches! I'm proud to say Canadian travelers are starting to see what this spectacular island has to offer. What Makes Jamaica Jamaica? The first thing you will notice is that Jamaican people are extremely friendly in nature, and present a real warm welcome when you first arrive. Once you step on Jamaican soil you'll hear the words echo "Irie mon", which is the Jamaican phrase for "cool", or "everything is going good"! But something was starting to change the minds of Canadians' perception of Jamaica, and we could not put our finger on it!
However, the question that may be on many Canadians minds are, why is Jamaica now so popular and becoming a growing destination to visit. Is it because Jamaica is the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean? Is it because there is a rumor that Jamaica is a Tropical Paradise with year a round warm climate, 4,400 square miles of lush island surrounded by incredibly crystal clear waters, and offers endless amounts of daily and nightly activities? Canadians are realizing that Jamaica has numerous things to do! From some of the most exciting fishing and scuba diving, to wind surfing and horseback riding, plus some of the best beaches to do nothing at all but relax while soaking up the warm Caribbean sun! Canadians are really enjoying Jamaica's spectacular nightly entertainment that they do so well. Plus the mouth-watering cuisine from many of their award winning restaurants and resorts have many Canadians experiencing Jamaica's delicious cuisine infused with their enchanting reggae sounds that echo into the warm Caribbean nights. The Question Still Arises, Why Are Canadians Now Flocking To Jamaica? Several years ago Jamaica was getting nothing but bad publicity, and many rumors were spread about this Island gem being an unsafe place to vacation. The mention of Jamaica would start stories that seemed to really be in my opinion, extremely exaggerated, and something we could not convince people that many of these rumors and stories were not necessarily true. But something was starting to change the minds of Canadians' perception of Jamaica, and we could not put our finger on it! If we were to put an educated guess it would have a lot to do with having more non-stop charter flights available across Canada during the winter, especially from Winnipeg. Or the fact that many of the Canadian vacation tour companies were providing more variety of resort packages and affordable pricing. That was not the reason though, and we had to give much of the credit to the Jamaican Tourist Board for travelling across Canada and promoting Jamaica here in Canada through positive tourism campaigns. Jamaica Is Cruising Into The Hearts And Souls Of Canadians! In our professional opinion, we have to give most of the credit to many of the Cruise Lines that have included Jamaica as one of their top port destinations to visit. You see, as cruising became extremely popular for many Canadian travellers, it gave them an opportunity to experience a small taste of Jamaica while in port, and that was enough to capture their passion to see more of this irresistible Island. Once in port, you have a full day to soak in the true friendly Jamaican culture, its uniquely crafted cuisine, and many of it's wonderful sightseeing excursions. There is no shortage of island tours, such as the famous Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, the Haunted Rose Hall mansion, plus the Bob Marley tour, where you can visit the home of this infamous Jamaican born Reggae artist that has touched millions of fans' hearts all over the world! Plus many other daily excursions, including the Rainforest Bobsled Jamaica at Mystic Mountain, which is a brand new attraction. So there is no question that once Canadian travellers had the opportunity to view and experience Jamaica that they would truly fall in love and tell everyone back home about this Island Gem! Some Quick Facts When Planning To Visit Jamaica: Jamaica is currently undergoing island-wide improvements and expansions, starting with their major airports. Both the Montego Bay and Kingston airports, which are currently under construction. A new cruise pier is being developed in the area of Falmouth, which is east of Montego Bay. This pier will welcome brand new cruise ships for the summer cruise season in 2010. The piers of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios are also going through improvements, such as air-conditioned passenger areas and custom facilities. There are numerous brand new resorts that are popping up in the country as well, increasing the number of rooms available to tourists. From the new RIU Montego Bay to the Grand Palladium, the choices range from budget to ultra-luxurious accommodations. The choice resort for 2008 was the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach & Villa Resort, which is a 5-star couples only resort, set on 100 tropical acres of paradise. Jamaica has a lot to offer for families as well, and a popular choice is the Starfish Trelawny, a 3 star resort offering a kids club, babysitting services, and jam-packed daily schedules of fun activities like mini golf and scavenger hunts. Jamaica is enticing us Canadians to visit this beautiful island, and experience the gorgeous sights while having the opportunity to take in a beautiful sunset at Rick's Cafe in Negril, shopping on the Hip Strip in Montego Bay, or partying it up in Ocho Rios. The possibilites are endless, and are waiting for all Canadians to enjoy!
